Summer is here which means more of the fruits I love! Strawberries are the ultimate berries and they are a favorite for my summer recipes at the MTT kitchen. With over 600 varieties of strawberries to choose from, each type offers incredible health benefits such as; vitamin C, , iodine, manganese, dietary fiber, and folate, vitamin B6, copper, biotin, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and omega-3 fatty acids along with being one of the highest anti-inflammatoryranked fruits available. In fact Care2.com just published an entire feature dedicated to the benefits of strawberries stating that they can help, "lower blood levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), a signal of inflammation in the body. In a study, women who ate 16 or more strawberries per week were 14 percent less likely to have elevated levels of CRP. (Harvard School of Public Health.)" What does this mean for us? It means the more strawberries we eat, the less pain relieving medicine we might have to take & that is living healthy !
When buying your strawberries, you want to look for the bright red color (not dark red which means they are over-ripe) and read the label on the pre-package material (if from a grocery store) to make sure they are an #organic #gmofree product, which means you will get the berry in its healthiest state at the peak of its nutritional growth. If possible, buy your strawberries locally to support small business and local farmers that are busy creating the best product for your body. You can use strawberries in salads, salad dressings, #glutenfree dessert toppings and/or wash them and eat them all by themselves as a healthy treat!
Bottom line-perk up both your dishes and your #nutrition with this amazing anti-oxidant rich superfood for a healthy summer boost.
