This week I had the chance to spend some time catering lunch to and educating the Tri Club staff (an amazing company in SLC, UT) about the importance of nutrition and the link it plays in personal and professional corporate productivity.
Often times we are just barely surviving long days spent at the office. Family commitments, social commitments, home life and personal situations are all time consuming factors that can suck energy right out of us, making it difficult for us to show up to work feeling prepared to tackle the day. Many corporate companies have recognized the value of encouraging health and wellness for their employees through gym incentives, onsite yoga classes, and encouraging group employee/employer fitness activities that showcase their dedication to improving employee wellness. Corporate wellness programs continue to gain momentum as employers become more educated and see the results in the productivity and overall job happiness among employees, and companies seem to get more creative every few months too. Publications such as Mashable and SnackNation.com are helping to promote corporate activities to relieve stress by publishing articles such as, "7 Companies With Amazingly Unique Wellness Programs" and "121 Employee Wellness Program Ideas for Your Office", featuring just how creative companies are getting to both retain employees and attract new ones.
Part of this growing wellness platform among companies, is the more recent focus on helping employees to be more nutrition conscience as well. Most of us spend more than 50% of our day in an often stagnant environment, behind a laptop or desk sitting and thinking. While we are using all this brain power, our body is losing energy to do the things we need to take care of when we leave the office. So, how we feed and nourish our bodies at the office, is vital to how productive and healthy we are in other parts of our life as well.
Educating companies both in Salt Lake City on how to offer more nutritional options to their employees as a compliment to their blossoming wellness activities, is so fulfilling for my staff and I. When Meals That Transform is asked to cater a lunch, we often take some time for a short educational presentation on the basics of nutrition, and how our body and brain convert and use that food to fuel our actions. It's a great experience for the company, as they get to taste fresh, local, organic recipes and meals from our kitchen, while understanding more about why we do what we do in the community through our nutritional services. It's also a great way to introduce companies to healthy snacks that they can make available for their employees, and the local farmers we co-op with in the area.
I always have a great time taking questions and interacting with the employees and management to help answer any questions when it comes to nutrition in the office. Basically, they learn how nutrition can make their business more effective, while incorporating healthy foods into their fun and creative wellness program ideas.
Thanks to Salt Lake City for including my Meals That Transform staff and I at your company lunches-we love to be part of helping you be more successful!
